Leaders and Staff

Elders

In the Bible we see elders are appointed to lead churches. They are also called shepherds or overseers and are given the task to look after and oversee all that happens in their church. At City Church we have three elders:

Dan Maton

Dan Maton

Dan joined City Church in 1999. He became an elder in 2008 and began leading the eldership team in 2013. In this role he is responsible for preaching and teaching, church vision, leading the staff team and overseeing the church's core groups. Dan is married to Rachel and they live with their three children in Sharrow.

Richard Owen

Richard Owen

Richard joined City Church in 2001. He became an elder of the church in 2014 whilst also working as an electro-magnetic design engineer, and in September 2016 he started working full time for City Church. Rich is involved in preaching, leading worship and overseeing various projects. He is married to Nicki and they live with their two children in Firth Park.

Chris Chart

Chris Chart

Chris joined City Church in 1998 and has served the church as the Chair of Trustees, as a youth leader for Fusion, and now he is the newest addition to the eldership team. He loves to be part of CCS, especially enjoying time away at Newday, Devoted, Bears’ Camp and the Weekend Away. Chris is married to Wendy and they have two grown up daughters.

Staff

Ginny Burgin

Ginny Burgin

Ginny's Christian journey began in 1972. Following a path of calling to the prophetic, she became involved in the church which later became City Church Sheffield. Ginny serves City Church and other ChristCentral churches in a variety of different ways which involves exercising her prophetic gift, pastoral care and teaching. Currently she describes her role in the words of Jeremiah chapter 1:7b "You must go to everyone I send you to and say whatever I command you."

Ben Gibbins

Ben Gibbins

Ben has been involved with City Church since it began; and after working as a civil servant for a number of years, he became the church administrator in 2008. This means keep a handle on the CCS buildings, communications and many of our projects. He also has responsibility for leading a Core Group, and occasionally he gets to preach on a Sunday. Ben is married to Jules and they live in Walkley along with their four daughters.

Chris Marriott

Chris Marriott

As a student, during a year in Mexico, Chris was stirred to join a "Word and Spirit" church and joined City Church Sheffield on his return. In 2012 he felt called to leave his job at Sheffield College to set up Jubilee Food Bank. Chris takes care of both the church finances and our social action projects: Jubilee Food Bank, Jubilee Money and Grub Club. Chris is married to Bryony and they live in Pitsmoor.

Bev Jarvis

Bev Jarvis

Born and bred in Sheffield, Bev first became familiar with the Church after taking her son to Kidz Club on Saturday mornings (a club CCS ran for a number of years). She started coming to City Church Sheffield in 2007, after she became a Christian at a special outreach event at the Octagon Centre. Bev takes care of the Jubilee Food Bank office at Shirecliffe Community Centre, organising volunteers, overseeing collections and deliveries, arranging packing and generally ensuring everything runs smoothly. She has been married to Darren for 20 years and has three children and three grandchildren.
